Course Description Recommended Prior Learning

Students wishing to enter this course must have been part of our Rūmaki cohorts in Year 9, Year 10 or the Year 11 or 12 Te Ara Rūmaki Reo Māori cohort. Otherwise, a student must come to Papakura High School from a Kura Kaupapa or Rūmaki Reo background. All students who enter this course will be screened, if results satisfy entry criteria, a place will be offered, if it does not a place in this course may be denied, but a place in 2 REO may be offered. The course content will consist of up to (22 credits) aimed at developing fundamental Kōrero, Tuhituhi, Pānui and Whakarongo skills.  Students are expected to be effective self managers capable of co-operative and self-directed learning to complete the tasks.


This course will challenge and extend the language skills of learners across the four modes of korero, whakarongo, panui and tuhituhi.
Ideally, this course will suit students who have progressed from Te Reo Māori Level 1 and 2 and who have a developing knowledge of Te Reo Maori. Course work will comprise of 3 internal Achievement Standards and 1 External Achievement Standard Exam. Final entry into this class will depend upon a screening assessment, results of assessment, subject teacher OTJ's in conjunction with the language abilities of individuals and the entire class.
