Year 10 Technology (Hard Materials) Semester 1
Course Description
Teacher in Charge:
Semester 1 Hard Materials
This is a hands-on course. It is an innovative, practical and multi-disciplinary programme for students, providing them with the skills and knowledge to springboard into any career in the construction industry. The programme is primarily workshop-based with the main focus on wood but also incorporating other materials into their projects and their designs. We encourage fun and interactive classes to encourage learners to experiment with wood and materials, thereby fostering a love of creating and designing. When learners see their designs come to life we want them to have a sense of pride and accomplishment when they complete their projects, whether it is a toolbox, name place, carving or even a cutting board to take home. Finishings are explored so each learner can make their projects unique and exciting.
It also develops literacy, numeracy and communication skills and has close links with the Technology curriculum. It fosters creativity and overall confidence with them being introduced to hand tools and some bigger machinery.
