This course offers Health and Physical Education Achievement standards. The results from these standards will contribute towards endorsement by the Health or Physical Education University Endorsement. There will be a strong focus on literacy and critical thinking skills.
The new Level 3 NCEA course on Health Promotion in Physical Activity is designed to inspire students to become advocates for healthier, more active lifestyles within their communities. This course blends theory and practice, offering students an in-depth understanding of how physical activity can be a powerful tool to enhance overall health and well-being.
Students will explore the benefits of regular physical activity, examine barriers to participation, and learn how to design and implement effective physical activity programs. The course also covers critical topics such as the social determinants of health, equity in access to physical activity opportunities, and the role of policy in promoting active lifestyles.
Through hands-on projects, students will work with community groups to identify needs and develop initiatives encouraging greater physical activity participation. Whether through sports, recreational activities, or everyday movement, students will learn to promote physical activity as a cornerstone of public health.
This course is ideal for those interested in careers in sports science, public health, education, or community development. By the end of the course, students will be well-equipped to create and advocate for programs that foster a more active, healthier society.
