Course Description

This course will extend the language skills of learners across the four modes of korero, whakarongo, panui and tuhituhi.
Ideally, this course will suit students who have a beginners knowledge of Te Reo through to an intermediate grasp of the Maori language. Course work which will comprise this program will be a blend of Unit Standards from the Te Pokaitahi program and One Achievement Standard from the NCEA Te Reo Maori Level 2 stream of assessments, which will be decided upon by the subject teacher in consultation with the class and in conjunction with the the language abilities.
Recommended Prior Learning
Students wishing to enter this course will ideally have studied Te Reo Māori at Year 9, Year 10 and Te Pokaitahi at Level 1. All students who enter this course will be screened, if results satisfy criteria a place will be offered, if it does not a place in the course may be denied. The Te Pokaitahi program will consist of a mixture of unit standards (possibly upto 60 credits) aimed at developing fundamental korero, tuhituhi, panui and whakarongo skills. Students are expected to be effective self managers capable of co-operative and self-directed learning to complete the tasks.
