Level 1 Hospitality is a gateway into 

  1. Vocational Hospitality, barista, bar tender, front of house, hotel management.
  2. Hospitality apprenticeships
  3. Health and Safety within the food industry
  4. Food Technology - University pathway

Students at Level 1 are expected to produce food and beverages, within an authentic environment, to commercial standards. All products are assessed against the recommended commercial standards. Students, as well as the learning tutors at PHS, are required to be committed to practising the Food Safety Standards of New Zealand and produce quality foods to a commercial standard at ALL times within this vocational environment. We support each other and work as a team to achieve successful outcomes.

Hospitality students at Papakura High School have a well-equipped, purposely built and fully functioning catering kitchen and barista machine for vocational learning and assessment.


This course leads into Hospitality at Level 2.


Course Overview

Semester A
This course introduces you into career pathways within the Hospitality industry and provides a variety of opportunities to get a taste of the culinary and beverage sectors. You will be trained to industry standards which will enable you to leave work ready within the industry. This is a good starter package leading into
