This course will suit students wanting to develop their language skills without the pressures of having attaining academic A.S credits. This course will suit learners that have previously studied Te Reo Māori as an option at Year 9, Year 10 or new learners to the Māori language.
Course work and assessments will comprise of Tuhituhi, Whakarongo, Pānui and Kōrero assessments. All of the assessments will equate to a combined total of between 14 and 16 internally assessed Unit Standard credits. There will be no external exam.
This is a competency based course, therefore, the measures of success for learners in this class will be based on their ongoing competency in Te Reo Māori, not the stringently defined curriculum levels in the NZC.
This course will suit students who desire to learn the language, however, are unable to engage and operate independently at Curriculum Level 4, 5 or 6 in Te Reo Māori. This course will also suit students wanting to develop their language skills without the pressures of attaining A.S credits, learners that previously studied Te Reo Māori at Year 9 or 10, or new learners of Te Reo Māori.
Some experience with the language although not compulsory is desired, however, a positive attitude and good work ethic are required.
